《合金装备：和平行者》由《合金装备4》原班人马制作的系列正统最新作《合金装备：和平行者》在E3上公布登陆PSP。本作的主人公与《合金装备3》相同，是美国的传奇英雄BigBoss，《合金装备和平行者》是《合金装备》系列的正统续作；
游戏的时间背景为《合金装备3》的10年后、《合金装备5原爆点》的1年前，也就是1974年，地点则是中美洲的哥斯达黎加——佣兵部队“MILITAIRESSANSFRONTIERES”（无国界之军/无界之师）的所在地。

本作的以肩后视角自主操作瞄准射击为主，在举枪中可以操控移动，并且通过十字键左右可以切换视线方向（即将默认右肩视线改为左键视线），切换自动锁定瞄准后则变为第三人称原距离视角操控（以往MGS的默认射击模式）。这些都和MGS4一致，
瞄准中近距离下会有一定的部位自动锁定效果，方便玩家爆头，同时将系列中射击模式最大特色的可切换FPS模式给“剪化“掉了，这一简化很明显所带来的并不是什么良性效应，比如使用在本作中连个镭射瞄准器都没有的MK9之时，几乎无法命中距离较远远的敌人。
在历代中警戒状态中射击敌人都不会拉响警铃的武器、在系列中最高EX难度中即时被敌人察觉的时候将敌人爆头一击出局也不会拉响警铃的武器，在高难度下即使敌人装备头盔仍能和狙击枪一样爆头一击生效的武器。
手雷投掷方面，本作的改良应该算是更为人性化，MGS4里投掷预备状态下只显示抛物线和落下点，而本作甚至连手雷的反弹路径都显示了出来，显然这个设定会让手雷的应用提高至少一个档次，取代了以往系列作的手雷无脑扔发。
